Mission
To become a leading academic platform for activities relating
to the European Union, to inform the general public, academic
world, and the business world regarding the developments
and possibilities pertaining to Europe.
To help restructuring the University concerning the European
integration process as well as to cooperate with its
European counterparts with a view to initiate joint projects,
programmes, and teaching activities.
To launch and conduct research projects regarding the European Union
issues, and also create and be part of international research
networks on topics relevant to
the European Union in general, and
on Turkey-EU relations in
particular.

Profile
EUCU has been established as an academic unit within the Doğuş
University
with the objective of conducting interdisciplinary and
multidisciplinary research in
European studies, and restructuring of Dogus University on
European Union issues. The EUCU is made up of academic staff specialized on European
Union and Turkey-EU relations.
It aims to provide an academic and intellectual forum on
multiple aspects of the European integration process in
general and also with an
emphasis on the accession of Turkey and other candidates to
the EU.
EUCU also promotes high level academic research and it also
supports enhancing the research capacity of the
university through informing the academic staff in
international project formulation and
funding.
It also organizes academic conferences, seminars and lectures, open to
the public, as well as organizes workshops for academics, experts, and
the NGOs with a view to help capacity building in EU affairs.

Responsibilities
The EUCU has initiated and has been giving support to the following
since its establishment:
General restructuring of Dogus University
in line with its European counterparts within the context of
harmonization with the European Union.
MA Programme on European Union Studies:
This programme has been created with a multidisciplinary and
interdisciplinary approach and is presented by an
international team of scholars from all over Europe. The
programme is conducted under the Social Sciences Institute and
detailed information can be requested from
euma@dogus.edu.tr or
europe@dogus.edu.tr
Jean Monnet Project:
EUCU has brought 3 Jean Monnet awards to the university within the context of the MA Programme on European Union
Studies, and continues to launch more research and teaching
activities regarding the European Union. In 2003, also a Jean
Monnet Chair on EU Enlargement and Economic Governance has
been granted.
Jean Monnet Resource Centre:
this is established within the auspices of Dogus University
Library and offers a selection of latest and core books on the
European Union on a multidisciplinary basis.
Participation to EU Higher Education and Research Programmes:
this includes all activities regarding the EU programmes
containing academic and student exchanges, research, etc. such
as Erasmus and 6th Framework Programme in
line with Turkey's participation to such programmes.
EU
Commission Academic Subsidy Award on EU Governance: EUCU is awarded the international project on EU
Governance out of 317 projects submitted all over Europe,
which constitutes part of its research agenda, and continues
to conduct the project through cooperation with scholars from
several European Universities.
Harmonization of academic curriculum in tune with ECTS:(European
Credit Transfer System) The EUCU had a coordinating and
informing responsibility as regards the ECTS. And since 2006
the ECTS coordination is continued under the responsibility
of the Institutional Erasmus Coordinator and the
International Office.
Public lectures, seminars, and high-level scientific
conferences on European Union:
it is possible to have more information about these in the

Cooperation with NGOs and other universities on European
affairs:
EUCU is strongly
committed to be part of the civil society initiatives and
takes active part in the activities of the NGOs related to
Europe, and Turkey-EU relations as part of its mission.
